Why Blogging is Important Today

One of the biggest misconceptions about blogging is that it is, well, dead. And with the rise of other forms of media on the Internet — vlogging, podcasts, TikToks — it is easy to see how this misconception came about. But I am here to tell you that that is far from the truth. On the contrary, blogging is still very much alive and abundant today, with as many as 77% percent of people on the Internet reading blogs. It is further significant when you consider that 60% of people use blogs as an authority when purchasing items. Knowing just these numbers proves that blogging is still a powerful and persuasive medium to many. But I will go further and tell you why blogging is important today.

Why blogging is important today

Grow your Brand

Blogging is an opportunity to grow your brand. Like it or not, every person who has a presence on the Internet has a brand. It might be a personal brand, or a business one. The purpose of your brand might be to showcase the real you. Or, the purpose might be to promote a product or service to the audience. Regardless of the purpose and intention of the brand, blogging is a means to grow it. By blogging, you can express your thoughts and opinions about the world, or write about the product or service that you offer. But most importantly, you can become a proven industry leader in your field. Blogging can help you get there.

Drive Traffic to Your Site

Another reason that blogging is relevant today is that it is an opportunity to drive traffic to your site. For example, you can create a website to display the books that you have authored. One way to get your readers to keep coming back is by posting regular blog posts. By publishing blog posts about your niche, you accomplish two things: one, you establish yourself as an authority on the subject and two, you keep your site relevant with newly curated content for the search engines to ping. You can drive traffic to your site by boosting SEO results and cultivating an email list.

1. Boost SEO Results

By creating new content regularly, you boost SEO results. This is important simply because SEO — or Search Engine Optimization — is one of the most important things you can do if you want to drive traffic to your site. SEO is the way that people can find your site. If you have good SEO, then odds are that you will continue to attract more visitors. Even if you are not intricately familiar with the ins and outs of SEO, you can use plugins, such as Yoast SEO, to help you. These plugins guide you to creating copy that is scannable and readable with backlinks to help establish your site as an authority in your niche.

2. Cultivate an Email List

Another way that you can drive traffic to your site is by cultivating an e-mail list. If you intend to blog seriously, then it is essential that you add this to your blogging to-do list. Having an e-mail list is the same as guaranteed readership. Most people drive traffic to their site through social media, but there is no guarantee that the promotional content will reach your audience. By sending regular emails filled with updates on content, products, and/or services, you can keep people coming back through the power of connecting.

Make Valuable Connections

Last but not least, but perhaps the most important reason is making valuable connections with your audience. Blogging is definitely not one-way communication, or the writer imparting wisdom upon the reader base. Rather, blogging is a two-way communication between the content creators and the audience. Bloggers are not writing to an aimless void, but rather to a group of people with unique wants and needs that need to be validated. Further, it is this back and forth exchange of information that helps to create long lasting trust, authority, and confidence.

  1. Loved reading all your points. I’m glad to hear that most people still read and prefer blogs. You are absolutely right about everything. Blogging is definitely not a one way conversation. Building a good community of readers is as much important as posting in your blog regularly.

  2. Very valid points! You forgot the part that it also allows you to reach a wider audience in ways that you normally would not. That will never cease to be irrelevant so blogging cannot be dead.

  3. Very good tips Helen. I have personally experienced the thrill of giving healthy comments which build both the blogger and myself. Keep going with more similar posts๐Ÿ‘.

  4. Hey Helen. Great post and list. I really like the connection with those who are interested in what I write or blog about. Itโ€™s always great to know there are like minded people out there. ๐Ÿ˜Š
