Who am I?

I’m Helen. I’m a 31 year old multifaceted American and lifestyle blogger. I blog about life, the way that I see it. The way that I see life is from the perspective of someone who has been marginalized in society, and yet is trying to make it work.

Where am I from?

This is a question that I have gotten asked a lot in my life. Depending on who is doing the asking and why, my answer tends to vary. If the person is really asking me where my family is from, I say here. I say America.

If the person is asking me where I (separate from my ancestors) am from, I could say Texas. I was born in Texas. I am technically a Texan but I don’t remember the state. I was only a baby when we left. Or, I could say South Carolina, because that’s where I grew up. But I don’t, because people usually look at me with looks of disbelief.

So, instead, I find myself just settling for Earth. I’m from planet Earth, what about you?

What’s a perfect day?

I have a few different scenarios of a perfect day:

I am walking into the store sans mask. I can smile at everyone. I can grab a shopping cart that hasn’t been sanitized. I can dawdle in the store for as long as I please.

I am sitting on my patio with the laptop on my lap. Both kids are outside, playing, getting dirty. My fingers are poised over the keyboard, typing furiously fast, trying not to let that idea be forgotten.

I am in bed, about to go to sleep when I hear the sound of rain go pitter-patter on the windows. I snuggle up closer in the blankets, feeling comforted, as I doze off to the sound of the rain.

What do I do?

I wear many hats: I am a self-employed entrepreneur. I am a freelance writer. I am an English consultant. I am an ESL teacher. I am a writer. I am a blogger. I am a social media enthusiast. I am a knitter. I am a chocoholic.

Why do I blog?

I hope to write, to blog, to help inspire change. The world is not perfect. It is up to us to write about the issues that need to be fixed. It is also up to us to take that first step to do something about it, no matter how small. Together, we can create change. Little by little, we can make the world a better place to live.

  1. Hi Helen thanks for joining in with this tag! I loved reading your post. It was great getting to know you better – even when we are on opposite sides of the world πŸ˜‹
I had a laugh when you called yourself an earthling. And you’re quite right. We don’t need to get bogged down too much about our origins, when in fact we are all from this one big beautiful planet. We are one! 🌍
And it is quite nice to be in bed on a rainy day isn’t it. Ahh the simple pleasures in life.

  2. It’s hard to choose one word, I can be a bit of rebel so I’ll choose, Quirky and Inquisitive.

I love this post, simple and refreshing to read fellow Citizen of Earth ✌🏾

    1. Hi! Thanks for reading. I love those words: quirky and inquisitive. And nothing wrong with being a rebel as long as it’s directed at the right place πŸ˜‰

  3. Hi Helen, I absolutely love your writing style I could read it forever. I agree with your motivation behind blogging. As bloggers we literally can influence and push the culture/society into a better place. Slowly but surely. I’d describe myself as passionate. I really can be all in to whatever I put my mind too!

    1. Hi Lia, thank you so much! Yes, as bloggers, we have a huge responsibility to inspire change in the world. We have to talk about things that needs to be brought to all of our attention.
That’s so great that you are passionate. That is a very important quality to have. Without passion, there is no motivation and reason for doing things.
