Publishing a book is no easy task. From conception to outlining to writing to editing, there are a lot of steps involved when publishing a book. And then, once the book is finally published, the work still isn’t done. Today, most authors use social media to promote their published books. But the trouble with that is that there is so much competition. Because of this, we need to do things that are different and unique. But most of all, we need to be able to make a powerful impact. With that said, I am going to share with you 9 ways that you can promote your next published book.
These are the 9 outrageous things you can do after publishing a book so that you can get noticed in a big way.
9 Outrageous Things You Can Do After Publishing a Book
- Rent a billboard for a day
- Wrap your car
- Design a t-shirt
- Create a video
- Paint your body
- Dance in front of a crowd
- Make a mural
- Do some landscaping
- Hire a pilot to do some skywriting
1. Rent a billboard for a day
After publishing a book, you can promote it by plastering the book cover on a huge billboard across some of the biggest cities in your country. Billboards are incredibly powerful modes of advertisement. Think about it. Thousands — millions — of drivers on highways can glance up and look at a gigantic billboard with an awesome, tantalizing picture of your book. This is such an awesome way to get noticed and potentially make a sale. Click here to sell or rent a billboard for your book.
2. Wrap your car
We know that placing strategic advertisements on highways are effective. It is also just as effective to wrap your car. This means that wherever you go, people will see your book weaving in and out of the road. It is an awesome way to passively promote your book.
3. Design a t-shirt
If I were to publish a book one day, the first thing that I would do is jump for joy. The next thing I would want to do is to show it off to the world. If that means wearing a t-shirt with my book cover on it, then so be it. I would absolutely wear a shirt with my book cover on it. It would also be a wonderful way to promote. You could walk up to a random stranger at the mall or downtown, they notice your shirt, and then you could strike up a conversation with a book. So, in about five to ten minutes, you’ve not only promoted your book, but established a connection with a potential reader.

4. Create a video
One of the best ways that you can create content is by video. In today’s digital world, people are attracted to pretty pictures, catchy music tunes, and high quality films. You can create a YouTube video, TikTok, or Instagram Reel about your book. You can jump in front of your camera, set a catchy tune, write down 3 to 4 reasons why people should read your book, and then dance it out. Or, you can sit down in front of your holiday decorations and give a monologue of the 3 to 4 reasons why your published book is worth reading.
One thing I love about this idea is that unlike the others on this page, this gives a more personal touch. People want to hear from you, the writer. People generally don’t like being told what to do. But, they can be convinced with a dash of humor, a personal connection, and the value that it will give them.
5. Paint your body
This is probably the most outrageous thing on this list, but it certainly is a good way to get noticed. After publishing your book, you can paint your body. You can paint your body using the colors found on your book cover. Or, you can paint a picture that is central to the overall theme of your book. Whatever you paint, you would definitely get people to notice you, and consequently, your book. And that is what we want.
6. Dance in front of a crowd
Dancing is an excellent form of self-expression. This means that you could choregraph a dance on stage in front of hundreds, or even thousands, of people. The dance could be about a character or central theme in your book. You could add music to it, and sing the lyrics to a song to get people to buy your book. If it is catchy enough, you are bound to get people dancing and singing. Your lyrics will undoubtedly stick in people’s heads. You will make an impact with your dance moves. People will remember you and your book.
7. Make a mural
All forms of artistic self-expression is a fantastic way to make people feel something. You can create a huge canvas portraying a scene from your book. You could put that depiction in the form of a mural for people to see. Why you should create a mural is that you can get people to stop what they are doing for even just a second, and look at it. They can look, be amazed, and then want to know more. If they want to know more, then BOOM, you’ve got a sale.
8. Do some landscaping
Sometimes I love to drive through neighborhoods just to check out the landscaping. If I see some hedges in a unique formation, then I will most certainly stop just to admire the design for a few more minutes. So, if you have some hedges in your yard, then grab some pruning shears, and carve out a design. You could make a shape or an animal, or you could make a word. Perhaps you could even carve out the letters that form the title of your book. Imagine how cool that would be.
9. Hire a pilot to do some skywriting
Imagine looking out your living room window at the sky when suddenly words appear. You see an airplane high above you in the sky and words are trailing from it. You squint up to read the words.
Wouldn’t that a terrific way to promote your published book? Write the name of your book in the sky. Or write the words, “I am a published author,” similar to how people proudly proclaim their marriage or college graduation.
Publishing a book is no easy task. But I feel that the aftermath of publishing a book is even harder. Yes, you’ve written a book, but now the next step is to find your readers. The next step is to find people who would be interested in reading a book. It’s definitely easier said than done. That’s why this should be done in the most impactful way possible so that you can publish with a BANG.
