4 Best Reasons Why Cereal Is the Perfect Breakfast for Busy Mornings

Ever since I was little, cereal was my go-to breakfast. I loved to eat Lucky Charms, Froot Loops, or Cocoa Pebbles and then top it off with some sliced bananas.

Now that I am older, I still like cereal. I love Cheerios, Rice Crispies, and Cap’n Crunch. Of course, I wouldn’t turn down a veggie omelet or a full American breakfast consisting of hash browns, bacon, scrambled eggs, and toast.

But when I’m in a time crunch or just don’t feel like cooking, cereal is my go-to meal on the weekend. In fact, it’s my go-to meal for not just breakfast, but lunch and dinner as well.

Here are four reasons why it is:

1–It’s Easy to Make

You don’t need to be a high-end chef to make cereal. Anyone can make cereal. All you need is some milk and your cereal of choice. And I guess good poise to help you pour the right amount of milk to your cereal. I mean, the cereal to milk ratio has to be about 2:1. I don’t like my cereal too soggy or wet, after all.

2–It’s Versatile

Of course, you can cook or bake with cereal if you want. You can make rice crispy treats with Rice Crispies cereal. Add some Lucky Charms cereal to a cake. Or use corn flakes cereal to make your fried chicken extra crispy. There’s a lot of creative potential from a regular box of cereal. It’s never a bad idea to keep a box of cereal handy in the pantry for one of these creative pursuits.

3–It’s Customizable

You can eat cereal dry or wet. You can eat it without milk or with milk. You can eat it with almond milk, soy milk, or cow milk. You can add bananas or strawberries or any fruit you want. You can add nuts to it. Heck, you can even add whipped cream or peanut butter to it. Or you can make yourself a fried ice cream with cornflakes. Whatever floats your boat.

4–It’s (Un)healthy

Cereal is one of those foods that can be healthy or unhealthy, depending on what ingredients you use. Of course, some types of cereal are pretty sugary and has a lot of fat. Others, however, are pretty healthy with good fats, fiber, iron, and even some vitamins.

I love that anyone can just roll out of bed, scramble to the kitchen, and make cereal in less time than is needed to brush your teeth. Cereal is perfect for those busy mornings when you literally have only five minutes to get ready.

No cooking involved, just put on clothes and wash up, eat, and then out the door the next minute. Now, that is magic.

What do you enjoy eating for breakfast?

  1. I love Lucky Charms. There is just something about those little marshmellows. I eat healthier cereal now with less sugar and add fruit to it. At least once a week I eat cereal for dinner when it’s been a busy day and we don’t feel like cooking. It’s low in calories and full of vitamins and minerals. Stay safe.

  2. Don’t quote me on this, but it seems I remember once reading that if you had a choice between eating Cap’n Crunch or the box it came in, you would get more nutrition from the BOX! 😀 ‘Course that was quite a few years ago and they might have improved the formula in the intervening years, but I’ll stick with Cheerios, Honey Bunches of Oats or Grape Nuts; sometimes one of the Chex.
A banana blended into Ensure is quick and easy, too. 😉
    love and prayers, c.a.

    1. Yes Cap’n Crunch isn’t very healthy, despite how delicious it tastes. There are definitely more healthy options, like Cheerios or Fiber One cereal

  3. My go to at the moment are smoothies! I like Weetbix too, I should branch out and try some new cereals haha, I always seem to get bored of them and never end up finishing the whole box though 😂 definitely agree I can have ‘breakfast’ foods for breakfast/lunch or dinner too. Thanks for sharing 😌

  4. When my daughter was little I used to tell her “If you don’t know what you want to eat, then what you want to eat is a bowl of cereal”. She still follows this advice and she’s 39 years old now! In fact, she ranks breakfast as her favourite meal of the day and on a trip to London last year she and her husband stopped and had three lots of breakfast at different places rather than have breakfast, lunch and dinner.

  5. I honestly don’t eat breakfast as much as I should. The kiddo and I have Chocolate Chip muffins before we get up. Or Strawberry Shortcake if we do get up. I know, I’m the worst lmao!

Her dad gives her cereal but mostly because he loveeees cereal. I eat mine dry so sometimes I’ll share it with her. She’s not picky on how she eats it. Just that it’s something sugary lmao. Usually I like Fiber One with bananas if I’m feeling fancy!
