The Sunshine Blogger Award

I was nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award by Vibe Inspire. As with any blogging awards I’ve received, it’s such an honor and a privilege to receive one. Plus, it’s a great excuse for me to share more details about my life. I do love talking about me, which you’ve probably guessed since it’s kind of a requirement to be a blogger.

My Answers to The 11 Questions

Have you ever cooked something creative or unusual?

I’m not really much of an experimental cook. I just follow the recipe. One day, however, once I feel more confident in my cooking skills, I’d love to just take a couple of ingredients and make something different. I just hope that it would also taste really good.

What is your favorite social media?

If you mean my favorite social media platform, I would have to say Twitter. I have always been a huge fan of the written word. I’m not very good with expressing myself in pictures. I’m not an artist; I’m a writer. I love how I can talk and ask questions on Twitter. I also love that there is a pretty supportive #writingcommunity on there. Twitter is a platform that all writers should be on.

I have also been enjoying Instagram lately. At first, I was just using Instagram to post pictures of the kids. I was not using it as a digital marketing tool to promote outreach and conversation. Now that I’ve been spending more time on Instagram, I realize how much more you can do on Instagram. Instagram isn’t just about posting pretty pictures, but about creating a story about your brand. It’s about inspiring people to be their best. It’s about the community. It’s about what happens when creativity meets a bunch of bored, stuck-at-home people. Because I really believe that this is the year that Instagram, as well as other social media platforms, really took off. This is the year that people started realizing its full potential.

What makes you proud of yourself?

There are so many things that I could say. I could say that I am proud of myself whenever I finish writing a new blog post. I could say that I am proud of myself when I get a compliment from someone. Or when I cook something that actually tastes good. Or when the kids do something that shows that they’ve really been listening to what I said. Or when I’ve created a stellar design for a blog post and can’t wait to show it off to the world.

Your Favorite Motivational Quote?

Imagination is more important than knowledge.

–Albert Einstein

This is my favorite quote. I firmly believe that it is much more important to be creative than to be book smart. It’s often not what you know, but what you do with the information that makes all the difference. Anyone can rattle off a series of facts about Isaac Newton’s laws of motion or the most important historical dates of World War II, but not everyone can show the how. Not everyone can write a book or create a TikTok demonstrating these facts. Not everyone can take those facts and express it in a totally different, innovative way.

What are your goals for 2021?

In 2021, I hope to continue blogging. I hope to continue to grow my blog. Along the way, I hope to continue meeting more fabulous bloggers and readers. I also hope to learn more about this industry, because I am discovering that there is a lot that I don’t know. But I am doing all I can to learn as much as I can.

I also hope to find more opportunities to help me grow professionally. If anyone reading this knows of a fantastic opportunity in the digital marketing, social media, or content writing fields, then please reach out and email me.

Favorite cartoon from childhood?

I grew up in the ’90s. I remember watching cartoons on Saturday mornings. There were so many great cartoons then. It’s hard for me to pick just one. I loved watching The Jetsons, The Flintstones, Scooby-Doo, Cat-Dog, Hey Arnold!, Braceface, and even Tom & Jerry. There were more but those are the only ones I can think of at the top of my head. They were all really good and each show had different lessons that it imparted on us viewers.

What is your favorite pet peeve?

I don’t think I have a favorite pet peeve, but my biggest pet peeve is when people bite their nails. I don’t know why, but it just drives me nuts when I see people do that. I get why people bite their nails (because of anxiety and habit), but why. I mean, can’t you just use a nail clipper? Why ruin your teeth by biting your nails?

Who is your favorite character from your favorite movie or show?

My favorite movie is the Parent Trap. I still love to write that movie as an adult. I’m so glad that it’s on Disney+. My favorite character from that movie as a child was Annie. I have always wanted to be British and had many fantasies of living in England. I used to try to pull of a British accent, but I was never good at accents.

Your choice for an amazing breakfast?

If I had to envision an amazing breakfast on the most perfect day, it would have to include some scrambled eggs, tater tots, sausages, bacon, a piece of toast with strawberry jam, and a full glass of orange juice (without pulp of course). But more often than not, I just drink coffee for breakfast. Sometimes I make myself a bowl of cereal.

What is something (other than mobile phone) that you use everyday and is super helpful?

Something that I use everyday is my laptop. I use it for work, for blogging, and for interacting with people on the various social media platforms.

Which book would you name the best book you have ever read?

The best book that I have ever read will always be The Diary of a Young Girl, by Anne Frank. I write a detailed post about why this book is the best book ever. Click here to check it out.

  1. Congratulations and such great answers. ๐Ÿ˜€ Um…I used to bite my nails as a teenager.:o I don’t know why I did it but I ruined my nails more than my teeth, lol. I’m glad I grew out of the habit though as it made my nails pretty brittle at the time ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
I loved watching Tom & Jerry, it’s probably my favourite cartoon when I was younger ๐Ÿ˜€
I love that quote, I need to remember that myself. I think there are a few college lecturers that need to learn this, lol.
I have to check out Istagram more often, especially after what you’ve said. I keep going on it for a few days then abandoning it for weeks. Not very consistent but I guess that’s why I don’t have many followers. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

  2. Congrats, Helen, for another award! I wanted to nominate you for my blogger recognition award but I thought you can not nominate a person who is nominated alongside you, Now, I know there is no such rule๐Ÿ˜’. I love the movie The Parent Trap too but after the untimely death of the main actress Natasha Richardson, I felt sad whenever I watched this movie. I loved all answers to your questions, but particularly biting nails answer is my favorite. Well, the upside of biting nails is one doesn’t have to use a nail clipper-trust me, I cannot stand nail-biting either.๐Ÿ’•

  3. Congratulations on the award!! Youโ€™re gonna hate me for saying this but Iโ€™m a HUGE nail biter ๐Ÿ™ˆ the only times I canโ€™t do it are when I have gelish on them or if Iโ€™m in public lol. Itโ€™s def an anxiety thing. Also, writing is an art so youโ€™re an artist in my books ๐Ÿ˜‰
